Relationships between sequence, structure and functions of proteins
The function of a protein is defined by the three-dimensional organisation of its amino acids. This function is thus indirectly related to the sequence and more directly related to the three-dimensional structure. Studies based on the analysis of sequences should enable us to provide pertinent information to numerous problems (membrane insertion, highly probable interaction sites, potential antigenic sites,…). Prediction and analysis of protein three-dimensional structures open up further possibilities for a better understanding of function and mechanisms of action.
